Towards
a simpler e-commerce |
At Adkins-online we have recognised that in order for e-commerce
to really succeed it is necessary to reduce the process
to its simplest terms. Such an approach applies not only
to those wishing to establish an on-line store, but also
to those who are destined to use it. We will address the
needs of the customer first as it is the more straight forward
case.
Simplifying the buyers tasks -
two stop e-commerce
Although Internet Shopping should not be considered as work
then many companies certainly make it frustratingly hard
to use a shopping trolley. How many times have you found
yourself trying to make a purchase only to becomes so confused
and frustrated that you simply give up in anger and move
onto someone else's site?
At Adkins-online we always pay obsessive attention to the
number of steps it takes to accomplish a task. We believe
this is vital in e-commerce for every additional page the
user has to visit, every additional step in the order process
- is an opportunity for the customer to bale out of making
their purchase.
This is why the Adkins-online shopping E-trolley
reduces the shopping process to two steps. |
Step 1
The shopper opens your E-trolley page. This involves
a total download of less than 40KB and should take no longer
than 4- 5 seconds on a 56KB modem which is about average
for a web page.
From here on in, the shopper doesn't need to go anywhere
else on your site. They can review products in unlimited
categories and if you keep your data to a maximum of 20-30
products per category, each request should take no longer
than a second for your average modem - for DSL users, the
E-trolley flies!
The shopper can review all your products and build an order
quickly and easily. At all times, your customer can see
precisely what they have in their basket and how much it
is going to cost them. Because they are never required to
leave your E-trolley page, all navigation
remains consistent so there is no possibility of confusing
or disorientating the user.
Step 2
Finally, when the shopper wishes to checkout - that's exactly
what they do. They go straight to the PayPal payment page
and make their payment.
If they have sufficient funds to support the order, your
company will receive the order e-mail and the order will
exist. If funds are not available to cover the order you
will not receive an e-mail - the order will simply not exist
and you needn't worry about it. The customer, however, will
have the option to try again or to use the 'PRINT &
PAY' facility designed for cheques or money orders. |
